African Caribbean Cultural Potpourri Inc. (ACCPI)

African Caribbean Cultural Potpourri Inc. (ACCPI) was founded in 1986 by Eleanor Wiltshire-Rodney, a teacher in the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School System.  Its' mission was ambitious, far reaching and focused primarily on the development of youth with African and Caribbean heritage. In 1992, ACCPI became officially incorporated as a non profit organization. ACCPI’s early history included the staging of an annual Caribbean Potpourri variety show, which featured both emerging local talent and professional performers. Funds raised from those shows supported international causes in Africa and the Caribbean, local charities such as “Neighbour to Neighbour” and scholarships. Today, ACCPI’s primary focus is on providing first year scholarships for youth of African and Caribbean Heritage attending Colleges and Universities. Eligible recipients must have attended schools in the Hamilton-Wentworth area. These annual awards are aimed at fostering and rewarding academic excellence and outstanding community service. Since its inception in 1996, two hundred and seventy-four (274) scholarships and bursaries have been awarded to very worthy recipients attending colleges and universities. The ACCPI Award Alumni boasts a collection of lawyers, doctors, engineers, teachers, artists, entrepreneurs, and talents in practically every discipline imaginable. More importantly, after graduation, a considerable number have maintained their commitment to community service, and are contributing to a variety of organizations in this province and beyond.
