Philip Akin

Philip Akin is an actor, director, and award-winning black cultural leader born in Kingston Jamaica before immigrating to Oshawa Ontario at the age of five. Akin's career in the Canadian theatre community has spanned over forty years.He attended Toronto's Ryerson Theatre School where he became the school's first acting graduate. He also became a founding member of the Obsidian Theatre Company where he was the company’s artistic director from 2006 to 2020, creating mentor/apprentice programs and playwright Units for young artists.
