Andrea A. Davis

Dr. Andrea A. Davis is an Associate Professor in Black cultures of the Americas in the Department of Humanities at York University in Toronto and co-editor of the Journal of Canadian Studies. Her research engages questions of race and gender and focuses on the literary productions of Black women and constructions of Black youth masculinities. As a teacher-activist, she founded the Black Canadian Studies Certificate and has won multiple teaching awards, including a 2021 3M National Teaching Fellowship, Canada’s most prestigious recognition of excellence in educational leadership and teaching at the post-secondary level. She is a passionate advocate for Black youth, a friend of all oppressed peoples in the world, a mother and aunt, and dreamer of Black futures. She is currently co-editing the Handbook to Black Canadian Literature (Routledge) with Leslie Sanders.
