Fairbanks glistened with sunlight after the early morning showers. All roads led to the Annual Fall Harvest Festival. Unlike previous years, Mabel Christina Johnson would join the festivity with hundreds of townsfolk. Her favorite calf-length floral three-tiered skirt dress, hanging in the corner armoire, caught her eyes; her white ankle-wrap shoes she would wear though they might be muddy by the end of the fair. She was too excited about the prospect of meeting new friends from neighboring towns to consider mud that would cover her shoes.
