FROM CANOES TO JET- PLANES IN JAMAICA: The Palisadoes Tombolo, is a Black author written, Canadian book, about the history of Jamaica, of Palisadoes International Airport, and of Aviation. Starting from the discovery by Christopher Columbus, Claudette Jacks-Nancoo walks us through slavery, the Maroons, and the different ownerships of Jamaica. She describes Port Royal under Sir. Henry Morgan, and the Pirates of 17th Century.Having worked at the Meteorological Office, Palisadoes Airport for six years, she tells her story of what she remembers of the old airport, the West Indies Federation up to the Jamaican Independence. The story developed into the history of transportation in Jamaica as she writes about shipping, rail travel and local getting around by horses and donkeys.
