The Akoma Family Centre is a Black Canadian non-profit organization that uses a nurturing, Africentric, Trauma-Informed approach when working with children in care between the ages of 3-13 years old. The word "akoma" represents the heart in the Ghana culture and denotes love, patience, compassion, endurance and charity. Based out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Akoma's mission is to provide residential services for children and youth with a range of programs that are dedicated to the enhancement of the youth and their well-being.
