OYA BLACK ARTS COALITION

A non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting Black artists, creators and entrepreneurs within the entertainment sector. Our current Emerging Filmmakers program provides mentorship, networking, and essential skills training to post-secondary graduates of film, television, and digital media programs to kickstart their careers and increase employment opportunities. After three years of success, we’ve expanded our services to mid-career filmmakers/artists fostering the development, production and/or distribution of their projects, and we’ve created the OYA Scale Up Initiative to increase the number and capacity of Black Entrepreneurs within Ontario.

OYA is excited to announce the launch of its sister not-for-profit arm, OYA Black Art Coalition (OBAC). As founders of an awarding-winning production company sharing stories centred on Canadian Black perspectives, we are well placed to create opportunities and space within the film and entertainment industry. We are ready to bring about change

OYA Black Arts Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Black artists, creators and entrepreneurs within the entertainment sector.

Over the last three years we piloted the OYA Emerging Filmmakers Program, which gave young Black creatives the experience and confidence they needed to succeed. With over 60 alumni, today, we are ready to expand our reach, by establishing a much needed, not-for-profit organization that is ready to lead on an industry-wide shift. OBAC is going to transform the film and entertainment sector, by ensuring that Black creatives thrive from behind the camera and beyond. We will do this through advocacy and networking, mentorship and hands-on training, alongside providing safe space for experimentation. We know that film, television and digital media are booming sectors with goals of becoming a 5 billion industry in the near future, and now is a great moment to amplify the creative power of our Black communities.

We are ready to bring about change with our sister not-for-profit arm, OYA Black Art Coalition (OBAC).
