World Music’s Finest Performers Banding Together For A Night Of Musical Magic

The line-up for Toronto’s most anticipated 5th annual  World Music Festival has been announced and the halls are alive with the sound of music!

On November 3, 2017, Kouraba Toronto and The Randolph Theatre will play hosts to a night of drums, world instruments and audience joy as a mix of 17 master musicians and artists take the
stage to benefit The Centre for Cultural Advancement. Kouraba Toronto’s annual festival features four days of events including a drum workshop where participants can interact with and learn from musicians who interpret ancient stories passed down through generations of song tellers.

In 2014, the Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement was established as a non-profit organization with a strong mandate to engage and connect communities through music workshops, symposiums, concert series and the arts. Kouraba Toronto endeavours to showcase some of the cultural commonalities that exist among African & world Indigenous peoples.

This year's complete musical line up will be: 

Amara Kante - Artistic Director and Djembe drummer 

Nada El Masriya - Egyptian dancer 

Mohamed Diaby - Griot/vocalist 

Abdoulaye Traore - Guitarist 

Subhajyoti Guha -  Tabla player 

Safiya Daley - Fashion designer 

Aisha Diate Sylla - Vocalist 

Abdoulaye Toure - Dunduns drummer

Salif Lasso Sanou - Flutist 

Boris Pierrou - Djembe drummer 

Mamadou Kone dit Kaki - Djembe drummer 

Shamakah Ali - Drummer 

Ahmed Fofana - Keyboardist 

Roger Williams - Bass guitarist 

Luther Hansraj - Master of Ceremonies 

Joy Lapps-Lewis - Steel-pan musician 

Neil Brathwaite - Saxophonist 

Jayadevan Nair - Violinist 

These artists will all perform on Friday November 3rd, from 7 pm - 11 pm at the Gala Concert of the Masters at The Randolph Theatre. Saturday November 4th, Boris Pierrou will lead drumming workshops and a panel conversation with the Kouraba 2017 artists at A Different Booklist from 1 pm to 5 pm. The festival will close out on Sunday, November 5th with the Kouraba KeDunia World Music Concert at the Alliance Francaise de Toronto from 2 pm - 3 pm.
