Clarington’s Municipal Election is taking place on October 26, 2026, and becoming a candidate is one of the most direct ways to help shape decisions that affect everyday life in your community.
Nominations are now open! As long as you’re eligible, anyone can become a candidate.
In Clarington, you can run for:
- Mayor
- Regional Councillor
- Local (Ward) Councillor
- School Board Trustee

How to get started
Nominations opened on May 1, 2026, and will close on Nomination Day, August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m.
To become a candidate, you’ll need to:
- Make sure you qualify to run.
- Complete a nomination form.
- Gather the required endorsements (Council candidates only).
- Pay the applicable filing fee.
- Submit your paperwork in person at the Municipal Administrative Centre.
