A person sits at a dark table in a dimly lit workspace, writing in a notebook beside an open laptop. The person wears a tan jacket over a blue shirt and is shown from the side, with the head partially cropped at the upper-right edge. The laptop occupies the lower center of the image, while a takeaway coffee cup sits in the lower-left foreground. An orange notebook and a dark tablet or portfolio lie near the center of the table. Blurred chair legs and other indistinct furnishings appear in the dark background.

Understand this first: entrepreneurship is the raw alchemy of human ambition—a force that ignites when desire collides with vision, when hunger for agency overpowers the inertia of circumstance.

At its core, entrepreneurship is the unyielding refusal to accept the world as given—it cannot be manufactured, mentored, or programmed into existence.

For the entrepreneur who happens to be Black, it’s a visceral response to necessity—a defiant act of building something yours in a world designed to deny you.

But everywhere I look, there is another Black non-profit rebranding entrepreneurship as a “deliverable”.

Our ancestors understood segregation’s grim lesson: dependency is death.
