The Honourable Marjorie Michel is a Haitian-Canadian politician and public servant who currently serves as Canada’s Minister of Health, having been elected as the Member of Parliament for Papineau in 2025. Born in Haiti and the daughter of former Haitian Prime Minister Smarck Michel, she moved to Quebec at age 17 and later earned a master’s degree in organizational psychology from the University of Louvain in Belgium. Before entering federal politics, Michel held various diplomatic and political roles, including working at the Haitian embassy in France, the Organization of American States, and serving as Deputy Chief of Staff in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office—the first Black person to hold that position. Known for her deep commitment to public service, equity, and health care reform, Michel is also a longtime advocate for women’s economic empowerment through her involvement with the Réseau des Femmes d’Affaires du Québec.
