Here's how it all worked:

The awards were announced in November 2021 and there was a public nomination process where our readers submitted their favourite Artist, Book, Business across several categories. Self-nominations were permitted and the nomination period closed midnight December 7, 2021.

From there ByBlacks.com selected the top three nominees with the highest number of individual nominations as finalists in each category.

Voting opened on December 16, 2021. Readers had up until midnight December 31, 2021, to vote, and were allowed to vote once per day.
