Kyra's BIG Appetite

Kyra's BIG Appetite is a humorous story written in a playful rhyme scheme. Kyra is a rambunctious child with a sweet tooth she can't seem to control. She has an unhealthy diet consisting mostly of cookies, ice cream and cake. Although Kyra's mother warns her that unhealthy eating will catch up to her, she does not listen. Kyra now faces the responsibility of making a decision about her eating habits. What will she decide? Kyra's BIG Appetite is a universal story that details an experience of childhood, not an experience of being black. Tequis believes that normalcy in children's books should exist in the writing, while representation should be shown correctly through the illustrations. Black children should have access to stories that do not exploit or take advantage of their beautiful, unique features. This is a humorous cautionary tale that all children can learn from, but it is personally dedicated to us.
