Briefly describe the relationship with your father.

The relationship I had with my father was very mediocre. Although we lived in the same house for the first 24 years of my life, he did not provide love and support. Although he was keen on us having a good education, the financing that was needed, he did not provide.

I find that I quote him, or make reference to things he believed in (or did not believe in) which is probably a sign that I still yearn for the relationship that never was.

How has this shaped the relationship with your children?

I knew what I needed from my father, both tangible and intangible; I ensured that my daughter did not have to yearn for this type of relationship with me. I try to be there in every way I can and to be accessible at any time of day or night.

What do you enjoy the most about being a dad?

What I enjoy most about being a dad, is the transition and growth I see in my daughter, from being a child to a grown woman. She challenges me to be a better father and a better person every day. Our relationship is both parent and child and good friends.
