Nothing Will Happen To Me

Nothing Will Happen To Me
By

I have heard from many people from all walks of life, in many different situations the phrase “Nothing will happen to me”.

I have driven the same car for 5 years and never had a flat tire; and when I see a car on the side of the 401 with a flat or blown out tire I empathize with the driver but never ever think that can or will happen to me. Does that mean I will ever ditch my spare tire? Absolutely not!!!

In my line of work I don’t believe in fear-mongering, in fact as a sales professional I believe strongly that if I have to convince a client to buy then I shouldn’t be selling them anything. I recommend insurance products based on need, it’s that simple.

I speak to a lot of people every day about the risks they face, some of the people I speak to include friends, family members, prospects and existing clients, and I urge them to invest in lifestyle protection, even if they don’t do business with me.

A little over a year ago I met with a general contractor who just wanted to obtain commercial general liability insurance (which one of his clients required him to have), and I said to him you should seriously consider disability income protection, and he said “I have WSIB and furthermore nothing will happen to me.”

I suffered from the same “Nothing will happen to me” syndrome because at the time I spoke to this client I had no disability income protection in place; and I work in a sales role where the risk of getting injured is next to zero right? Wrong! One of my colleagues said, “Karl you drive over 20,000 km per year and all it takes is one car accident and you won’t be going on any sales appointments let alone earning a dime.” Suffice to say I purchased my disability insurance shortly after that conversation.

Sadly I got a call from the wife of my client who thought nothing would happen to him to inquire if he had disability insurance because he recently lost three fingers operating a table saw. This news was as devastating to me as it was to everyone who has been directly affected by this tragedy.

Many accidents happen off the job, meaning WSIB will not pay a dime for off the job injuries, and for on the job injuries, I am told by a Paralegal who specializes in WSIB claims that if getting a claim settled was easy, nobody would need her services.

Overcome the “Nothing will happen to me” syndrome and protect your lifestyle with Disability Income Protection; your income is the source of all you own and is therefore your most valuable asset.

Be prepared just in case - You can do it, I can help.
