ABOUT YOUTH DAY and its annual Summer Festival in Toronto:
YOUTH DAY Toronto is an official “Event of Municipal Significance” for the City of Toronto, and was created by Founder Tylaine Duggan in 2006. The FREE family festival attracts over 35,000 each Summer and celebrates the positive achievements of young aspiring artists showcasing their Music, Dance, Art, Photography, Fashion Design and Film at Yonge-Dundas Square. Entering its 10th year, YD’s successful Canadian Platform inspiring youth to build self esteem and find a passion, has attracted the invitations of Consulates and Mayors around the World. In 2015, added a Jamaica festival in Montego Bay and is now poised for Barcelona Spain, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, London England and New York City in the United States in future years.
Each year, YOUTH DAY breaks a world record scheduling over 100 act changes across 2 outdoor stages during the full 12-hour non-stop day. The event also includes a unique Youth Gallery for art, and all are welcome to attend and meet the artists and families supporting aspiring artists.
The roster which commences at 11:00am with a Flag Parade with associated Community Organizations also features a respectful “Moment of Silence” for youth lost to violence saluted with partners such as Toronto Police and Crime Stoppers representatives. A VIP area accommodates Community Leaders, Dignitaries and Canadian Music Icons lend their time to give back to fans.
Additionally, YOUTH DAY closes Yonge Street during the event to accommodate a vibrant vendor market offering tasty food, interesting artisan booths and information stations for community organizations for services for youth and families plus career opportunities available in trades such as policing, fire, trades and many more.
“YOUTH DAY is not just a day – it is life changing” are accolades from the Youth themselves. They establish new friendships with like-minded individuals; they may be discovered by Industry scouts; and now find new interests. Even parents are now collaborating with their chosen vocation, and comfortable in the knowledge that their time is being spent productively and close to home.
