We'll have a full review of the amazing event attended by thousands of people from all over later this week. But don't wait for that, get out there and show your Pride!! Here's all the info you need.
In 1998, Blackness Yes! was formed by a group of friends who collectively saw the need for a community-led space for Black and Caribbean diasporic LGBTTI2QQ people and their loved ones at Pride. Together they created Blockorama, designed to affirm, celebrate and ensure visible Black and Caribbean LGBTTI2QQ communities within Pride; and to create a vehicle for HIV/AIDS information dissemination. Since 1998, Blackness Yes! continues to celebrate Black LGBTTI2QQ history,
creativity and resistance.
We are thrilled to present STILL WE RISE: Blockorama 16, a day-long soul-inspiring celebration and sassy creative expressions commemorating World Pride 2014!
We invite you to engage in several art activities and interactive performances throughout the day, including Activist Love Letters, facilitated by artist and activist Syrus Marcus Ware.
Performers throughout the day include: vocalists: Ashley Bea, Troy Jackson. Be sure to check out Theesatisfaction (Seattle) and LAL (Toronto), these bands will not only stir your heart and but move your feet. Joining us once again will be the fierce Diana King. If dance is your thing, then the performances by local dance icons Ill Nana, Urbanesque and the House of Monroe are not to be missed! To help us ring in our sweet 16 in style we have the one and only dance music icon: Crystal Waters.
