    For Dewitt Lee, co-founder of Emancipation Month Canada, August is more than just a time to host city-wide events; it’s a time for change.

    The Shea Moisture Pop-up celebration was a jam packed 4 day mini festival, kicking off with a coral carpet and a Canadian celebrity reception, including thought-provoking panel discussions and masterclasses on how to recognize healthy hair.

    Emancipation Month will recognize the struggle for human rights made by Canadians of African descent and the legal abolishment of slavery in Canada, 185 years ago. The month presents itself as an opportunity to reflect on a dark past, educate others on the impacts of slavery and celebrate a path forward.

    Honey Jam, the all female musical showcase has been going strong for 24 years in a row, churning out mega stars like Nelly Furtado, Jully Black and Melanie Fiona. This year, the show will be hosted by CBC’s Amanda Parris on August 22 inside Toronto’s Mod Club.

    Bishop Audley M James, founder and visionary of well-known Toronto based Revivaltime Tabernacle Worldwide Ministries, was a highly esteemed man of faith. He impacted numerous lives, communities, churches and governments worldwide. Bishop James passed away July 20 2019 at the age of 81.
