This is America: He Gets To Be Lawless. She Has To Be Flawless.

This is America. They’ve told us what they think and what they want. They don’t want a woman, and they sure as hell don’t want a Black woman.

Instead of saving their democracy, they prefer to burn it down. They lit the match and tossed it right into the middle of the country.

Well, you know what? This is America’s business. I am tired of being more worried about the States and its well-being than the people who live there. All because they despise Black people and love white supremacy.

Some people claimed they voted for Donald Trump because of the genocide of Palestinians by Israel. As if Trump gives a singular damn about the people of Gaza. He does not care. White and Latino people said they voted for Trump because he’s ‘strong’ and a ‘protector’ although he will allow your daughters and wives to bleed out in a parking lot if they need abortion care or deport you back to wherever you came from.

This isn’t a “we’ll wait four years, and things will get better!”

You really think this man will care about another election? No, he said vote for me and you’ll never have to vote again. Funny, exit polls found 73% of voters nationwide said they think democracy in the U.S. is threatened. Clearly, they weren’t threatened enough.

I'm no longer sitting on the edge of my seat, praying for Trump to be imprisoned because this is who they want. Maya Angelou said, when someone tells you who they are, believe them. Why don’t we want to believe that a country born out of violence, the enslavement of Black people for 246 years, and the genocide of Native Americans would refuse to give the reins to a biracial Black and Asian woman?

This is who they’ve always been.

Keep your sorrows and prayers because they do not care. Stop protesting, podcasting and writing think pieces, because most Americans don't care--51% of them voted for Trump.

And they don't care because this is who they are.

Donald Trump is who they want. A less than mediocre white man who can't do enough wrong to be punished. It didn't matter how qualified Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris was. It didn’t matter about the policies, the debate, or interviews. People didn’t vote for her because of racism and sexism.

Why? Because it is exactly who they are.

Exit polls suggested that Harris would win after running an almost flawless, disciplined 107-day campaign but as the results came in, we all remembered what our parents told us as we were growing up: you have to work twice as hard not even to get half as far.

Do y’all remember what Michelle Obama said a couple of weeks ago?

Let me remind you. She said, “I hope you'll forgive me if I'm a little frustrated that some of us are choosing to ignore Donald Trump's gross incompetence while asking Kamala to dazzle us at every turn. I hope that you will forgive me if I'm a little angry that we are indifferent to his erratic behaviour, his obvious mental decline, his history as a convicted felon, a known slum lord, a predator found liable for sexual abuse — all of this while we pick apart Kamala’s answers from interviews that he doesn't even have the courage to do.”

CNN’s Van Jones said, “Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are not taking the same exam. He gets to be lawless. She has to be flawless. That’s what’s unfair.”

But no one wants to have the conversation about misogynoir and the concrete ceiling Black women hit. White supremacy and patriarchy tie our hands behind our backs, silence our voices, and make us watch unqualified, unprepared, ridiculous people win…and we are tired.

We can be everything—well-spoken, educated, strong, ready to do the job—and it doesn’t matter because many people will never consider us good enough, smart enough, ready enough, or strong enough.

I don’t have the energy to get angry and yell from the rooftops because it’s like yelling at a brick wall.

So, I’m not wagging my finger at the 55% of white people who chose Trump over people’s rights. I’m not worried about the 54% of uneducated voters who believe a man with a golden toilet is more like them than someone who worked at McDonald’s to get through school. I’m ignoring the 81% of white evangelicals who supported a man who slept with and paid off a porn star. I’m done with the 52% of white women who voted for a man who was found guilty of sexual assault (among other things). I’m not preaching to the 45% of Latinos who stood behind a man who put their people in cages.

To Black people, especially Vice President Harris, protect your peace and yourselves, this will be a bumpy ride.

The rest of you, this is America.
