The Toronto Black Film Festival has unveiled its extraordinary line-up for the 2018 edition and it includes a screening of Oliver Jones | Mind Hands Heart on Feb. 16.

The one-hour documentary pays tribute to acclaimed Canadian jazz pianist Oliver Jones and follows him in the weeks leading up to his retirement in early 2017 after seven decades as a performer.

“Jazz giant Oliver Jones retire without a documentary made about him? Not on my watch,” said Toronto director and producer Rosey Ugo Edeh.

Oliver Jones | Mind Hands Heart, which had its world premiere at the Montreal International Black Film Festival in September, goes behind the scenes at his final concert at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in July 2016 and at his last-ever concert in his parents’native Barbados.

Mr. Jones reflects on his memorable life and career, and some of the people who know him best share what he has meant to them and to the Canadian jazz scene.

"Oliver Jones is a brilliant musician and phenomenal human being,” Edeh says. “ His talent and humanity warranted a film showcasing his life so far.”

Oliver Jones | Mind Hands Heart is the first film by Edeh, who has been a familiar face on Canadian television for many years.

Oliver Jones | Mind Hands Heart will screen at the Toronto Black Film Festival on Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Jackman Hall in the Art Gallery of Ontario. Oliver Jones and Rosey Edeh are scheduled to attend.
