This colourful showcase of Caribbean culture was just a sampling of the festivities expected in the weeks ahead. Band leaders presented elaborate costumes as the energetic sounds of soca music and the rich aroma of traditional Caribbean foods filled the air. This year’s celebration will include special events commemorating the carnival’s 50th anniversary and Canada 150. Toronto Caribbean Carnival events, including the Carnival Ball, the lighting of the CN Tower, and the Grande Parade, are ongoing until August 5th.
